As a fry connoisseur, I know what a good fry tastes like that these definitely hit the spot! I've made my fair share of air fryer fries including homemade air fryer home fries, air fryer frozen waffle fries, and even air fryer sweet potato home fries - but I keep coming back to these every time I am craving a easy and quick snack.

These are a different variation of my seasoned potatoes side dish; but in an air fryer friendly method. They are seasoned well, super simple to make and don’t require a ton of oil like traditional fried fries. That means you can enjoy a healthier, guilt-free snack or side dish that’s just as delicious.

Ingredients You'll Need

Here is what you'll need to make this recipe. See recipe card for quantities and notes:

Ingredients to make air fryer steak fries including potatoes, olive oil, spice mix

Potatoes: Russet Potatoes work best for this recipe since they are longer than other varieties, but you can also use Yukon Gold as an alternative.

Oil: Olive Oil or Avocado Oil works best to coat the potatoes before air frying.

Spice Powder: I use Paprika, Garlic Powder, Dried Thyme, and Oregano. Mix in your own variation of seasoning as you please!

Salt and Pepper: for added taste.

How to Make Air Fryer Steak Fries

Making these fries is super simple and beginner friendly. See recipe card for a more detailed version of these instructions.

Step 1: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3-5 minutes.

Step 2: Wash and scrub and cut your potatoes lengthwise into thick wedges (½ inch to ¾ inch thick). Leave the skin on the potatoes for extra texture.

Step 3: Season your potatoes with oil and spices. Add in the garlic powder, paprika, oregano, salt and pepper. Mix well to coat the fries.

Step 4: Layer out the potato wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket and air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 16-20 minutes. Shake the basket half way through to cook evenly.

Top Tips For Success

Tip 1: Don't crowd the air fryer basket. Make these fries in batches if making a larger quantity than what your air fryer basket can handle.

Tip 2: Shake the basket half way through so the fries cook evenly.

Other Seasoning Variations

Here are some other great variations to consider:

Coat with Cornstarch for extra crispiness! Check out this recipe by Delish that uses cornstarch to make these steak fries extra crispy!

Create your own seasoning mix - I've tried them with cajun, Lemon pepper and truffle seasoning and they all turn out super delicious!

Make it spicy - If you can handle the heat, substitute chili powder for paprika to intensity the heat!

Add Toppings: Make this a meal by adding in toppings nacho cheese, tofu crumbles (tofu ground beef) and jalapeños for a total fiesta!

Storing and Reheating

For any leftover fries, store in an airtight container and refrigerate for another 1-2 days.

To reheat, air fry them at 350 degrees for 3-5 minutes or until warm. Do not microwave your fries as they tend to turn soggy. Nobody likes soggy fries!

What to Serve with Steak Fries

These fries are perfect for game day or for a large gathering as a snack. They can also be paired as a side to your main meal. Check out some of our sandwich and pizza ideas to pair these fries with

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
  • Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly. Leave the skins on for extra texture and nutrients. Cut each potato lengthwise into thick wedges, about ½-inch to ¾-inch thick.
  • In a large bowl, toss the potato wedges with olive oil until they are evenly coated. Add garlic powder, paprika, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Toss again until the potatoes are well coated with the seasoning.
  • Arrange the seasoned potato wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overlapping. Cook in batches if necessary, depending on the size of your air fryer. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time to ensure even cooking. Check for doneness and crispiness. If needed, cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the fries are golden brown and crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside.
  • Once done, remove the steak fries from the air fryer and transfer them to a serving plate. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or alongside a main dish.

Notes
