Best Brands of Frozen Samosas for the Air Fryer
Samosas were once hard to find in American grocery stores. But thanks to their growing popularity, you can now find them at most stores including Trader Joes, Target and even Costco.
The most common ones you'll find are mini samosas that are bite sized compared to the traditional ones that can get as big as your fist!
Here are the most common brands I've seen that work well with the air fryer:
- Trader Joes Mini Vegetable Samosas: This is what I make this in recipe, with 12 mini samosas in each box. Trader Joes also has a seasonal pumpkin variety that is also delicious.
- Sukhi's Frozen Samosas: These are most commonly sold in Target and Costco. They are similar to Trader Joes samosas in size, so they should fit easily in the air fryer.
- Deep Potato and Peas Samosas: If you find your way into an Indian store, these are most commonly found in the frozen aisle. They are slightly bigger than Trader Joes or Sukhi's, so you will need to add more time to the air fryer if you are making these.
- Journey to India Vegetable Samosas - If you have an Aldi near you, you can pick these up in the frozen aisle. They also come with tamarind dipping sauce and are slightly on the spicer side!
How to Make Air Fryer Frozen Samosas
I am using Trader Joe's mini vegetable samosas to make these samosas in the air fryer. If you are using a different brand, check the package instructions for air fryer options or use my air fryer conversion calculator for the best temperature and timings for your samosas:
Step 1: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
Step 2: Once preheated, place the samosas in the air fryer basket (no need to thaw). Space them out across the air fryer so they don't overlap. If you are making a large quantity, make these in batches.
Step 3: Air fry for 9-11 minutes until golden brown. Flip the samosas half way through so they cook evenly across each side.
Transfer to the plate, allow a few minutes to cool before enjoying them with your favorite dipping sauce.
Top Tips For Air Frying Frozen Samosas
Top Tip # 1: The size of your samosa will affect how long you will put them in the air fryer. As a general rule of thumb, if the packaging instructions specify conventional baking instructions, you can convert them into air fryer friendly recipe by reducing the temperature by 25°F and reducing the cooking time by 20%.
Top Tip # 2: Don't crowd the basket. Leave space between the potato pastries so that the hot air circulates and cooks the pastries evenly.
Storing and Reheating
If you have leftover samosas, you can store in an airtight container for up to 2 days. To reheat, simply air fry them at 350°F for 3-4 minutes until warm.
What to Serve with Samosas
Samosas are traditionally served with mint and tamarind chutneys - but you can get creative and pair them with almost any dipping sauce like ketchup, mayo or even this mango habanero salsa!
Here are some of my favorites that are easy to make and pair well with samosas:
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can warm them up in the microwave, but I do not recommend them microwaved as they end up slightly soggy. Air fryer is the best option if you want your samosas to turn out crispy!
I don't use any oil when air frying frozen samosas. When they are frozen, they are precooked with some oil in them and that should be enough to turn them crispy and golden brown.
Yes, each frozen package should come with its own baking instructions. For the Trader Joe's brand of frozen mini samosas, you can bake them at 400°F for 14-16 minutes.
